How this compares to typical targets

Product page150-400 words
Blog post / guide1,000-2,500 words
Landing page300-800 words
Pillar / cornerstone page2,000-5,000 words

These are common rules-of-thumb, not a ranking requirement. Google has repeatedly said there's no minimum word count for ranking, thin content gets penalized for being unhelpful, not for being short, and padding a genuinely simple topic to hit a target number usually hurts more than it helps.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google have a minimum word count for ranking?+

No, Google has said repeatedly there's no minimum. Thin content gets penalized for being unhelpful relative to what a searcher needs, not for being short; a 200-word page that fully answers the query can outrank a padded 2,000-word one.

So why do the length targets in this tool exist at all?+

They're common patterns, not requirements: a product page rarely needs 2,000 words, and a genuine comparison guide rarely fits in 300. Use them as a sanity check against obviously mismatched length, not a number to hit artificially.

How are headings detected?+

Markdown-style heading syntax (# through ######) at the start of a line. If your draft uses plain text without Markdown, the heading count will show as zero even if it has clear section breaks.
